STUDENT TEACHER INTRODUCTION

At the onset, both yudansha (black belts) and mudansha (non black belts) need to fully understand the proposition, as stated by Seishiro Okazaki Master, "that the fundamental reason for the practicing of jujutsu is to complete and perfect ones character. The character of each person is made up of an aggregate of tendencies, which is the sum total of the basic values, attitudes, and inclinations of a persons mind. As different experiences pass before the mind, they leave upon it different images, and the result of these combined images are impressions. A combination of these impressions are referred to as a persons character.

When a large number of similar impressions are left on the mind, they coalesce and become a habit. Everything we are is the result of habit. Character is repeated habits, and repeated habits alone can reform ones character.

Student Teacher-1

While the character of each person is dynamic, it can be said that it is made up of an aggregate of tendencies and habits which is the sum total of the basic values and inclinations of a person's mind. Character is repeated habits and repeated habits can form character. We can never say a person is hopeless, because they represent a character; a bundle of habits which can be checked by new and better ones.
